Volume 1 no. 2 “Down Among the Dead Men”
This issue opens with Boone laying on the mortuary slab, and Lori discovers from Decker where Boone died. Joyce has a great line: “Monsters...they don’t look any different, do they? Inside?”
True to the movie’s plot, Boone escapes through the window of the mortuary and returns to Midian. Lori, believing his body has been stolen, also makes her way there.
Stopping at the Sweetgrass Inn, Lori meets Sheryl Ann, who accompanies her to Midian the next morning to meet her own gruesome destiny at Decker’s hands -and knives. The story moves extremely swiftly, pretty much sticking to the movie, except that Joyce is running the show for the boys in blue, and we only meet Eigerman briefly, who is dead keen to wipe out the ‘freakin’ freaks’ in Midian.
This issue concludes with the police escorting Boone from the Motel where Lori has just witnessed the transformed Cabal ‘feast’ on the meat of the dead.
Along the way, we also meet the transformed Narcisse, Rachel and Babette, Lylesburg, Ohnaka, Baphomet, the Berserkers, and among other ’background ‘Breeders we glimpse a two-headed chicken-person hybrid!
