Clive Barker's Nightbreed Comic - Volume 1 no. 3 “Masks”
Opening with Boone ‘the freakin’ freak’ getting worked over in his police cell by Shere Neck’s finest, Ashberry is sobering up in the cell next door. Meanwhile, Boone pities himself, ‘I’m the man without a mask– Boone, the cannibal. The Freak.’

Decker and Eigerman convince Joyce to return to Midian, ‘I know it sounds mad’, the good doctor states, ‘but these aren’t men we’re talking about– They’re monsters!’

Babette ‘visits’ Lori telepathically, like in the movie, letting her know the encroaching danger brought by Joyce’s men- Pettine, Gibbs and Tommy. The ‘bad men have caught Ohnaka!’ Babette informs Lori, who watches Ohnaka’s death through Babette’s tearful viewpoint.

Fighting back, Rachel and Narcisse torch the cop cars and take a ride on the wild side, beyond Midian's gates, to rescue Boone.

The Sons of the Free rouse and arm a posse, recruiting Ashberry’s spiritual assistance en route and head off for Armageddon. Lori meets Rachel and Narcisse and the mission to rescue the reluctant, self-loathing Boone begins. After Narcisse and Rachel dispose of their captive, Lori helps Boone find forgiveness in her own unique way (!) and they head for Midian to protect it as best they can.

While the Sons of the Free prepare to burn Midian, Ashberry sees a ‘Breed ‘angel’ fly overhead and  is temporarily ‘converted’ to the ’Breed cause. Boone convinces Lylesburg to let his people go… while Decker’s mask persuades the crazed psychiatrist to let it see bloodshed!

This issue concludes with it all ‘going off’ in Midian- A werewolf leads Babette to safety (her father?), Ashberry is filled with remorse, sensing that he’s lost his chance of salvation, and the good old Sons of the Free seem to be ruling the day!
